Trimming palms, desert trees and citrus
Different trees need different approaches. Tell us the type of tree on your request so we can plan for it.
Palm trees
Palms grow from a single crown instead of a branching structure, so trimming a palm is a different job from shaping a shade tree. When we evaluate a palm, we look for heavy dead fronds, pests and structural hazards. Our approach is to remove dead or dying fronds and keep a natural canopy, because over-trimming, often called hurricane cutting, can weaken the tree.

Palo verde trees
We evaluate palo verdes for problems such as root rot, borer damage and structural weakness. Removing too many branches, especially in hot weather, can expose the green bark to sunburn. Common palo verde problems

Citrus trees
Timing matters with citrus. Light pruning is fine in winter, but heavy pruning from February through April, when citrus blooms, can reduce fruit. Removing dead or diseased branches and thinning dense areas lets air and sunlight into the canopy, which also makes fungus less likely.

When and how often should my trees be trimmed?
There isn't one schedule for every tree. It depends on the species, its age and health, how fast it grows and what you need from it. We'll suggest timing for your trees during the evaluation.

What does a trimming job include?
The work in the plan you agree to, which can include shaping, thinning, crown reduction and deadwood removal, followed by cleanup of the debris.
Do you clean up after trimming?
Yes. Our trimming process ends with clean-up and disposal of the debris, and we leave your property neat when we're done.

What affects the cost of tree trimming?
The number and size of the trees, the type of work, how easy the trees are to reach, and how much debris there is to clean up. The evaluation gives you a plan for your specific trees before you decide.
Is trimming a palm different from trimming other trees?
Yes. Palms don't branch like shade trees, so the work is planned differently. Tell us you have palms on your request so we can plan for them.
What if my tree needs more than trimming?
Sometimes the evaluation turns up signs of pests, disease or decline, or a tree that may not be worth keeping. We'll tell you what we see. Tree health treatment is handled through our plant health care service, and tree removal has its own page.
